Let us guide you in this amazing experience. Cavall Bernat is the biggest and thinnest rock “needle” in Montserrat. It is joined to the rest of the mountain from the south, all other slopes fall vertically more than 200 metres. It is the emblematic symbol of Montserrat, and its famous silhouette is unmistakable from any viewpoint in the mountain, making it an irresistible challenge for rockclimbers.

This peack has more than 20 rock climbing routes, but Guies de Montserrat guides offer you three options, which under our point of view are the most interesting:

The Regular Route

70 meters V

Before 1935 it was considered impossible to conquer, but rock climbers Boix, Costa and Balaguer proved otherwise and managed to reach the top following the dihedral on the south side of the rock.

Punsola - Reniu route

240 meters V + / Ae

The Punsola Reniu rock climbing route runs along the beautiful north ridge, shaped like a chute or slide, where the difficulty of the route is directly proportional to the slope of the wall, reaching the last two long pitches, which leave us hanging over the sheer drop. It is certainly one of the most beautiful rock climbing routes on Montserrat, in fact in all Catalonia or Spain, and is simply a must for any rock climber. Judging by what guides and visitors say, it never disappoints!

Puigmal Route

6a/A1 255 meters

The “Puigmal” is the route that goes up the central fissure or crack in the north side of the Cavall Bernat, up to the last few metres, where a very impressive aerial point in the climb, with an overhanging drop, takes us to the very top. Reserved for experienced and solid rock climbers.
